JACKSONVILLE — Roger Bruce Simpson, 75, of Jacksonville, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10, 2026, at Novant Health in Wilmington, surrounded by his family.
A celebration of Roger’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel, with Pastor Andy Williams officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
Roger was born in Toccoa, Georgia, to the late Cal and Annease Meeks Simpson. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, retiring as a Master Sergeant after a distinguished career. His service reflected the strength, dedication, and integrity he carried throughout his life.
Roger was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He shared 40 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Cathy, building a family grounded in love and support. He cherished time with his children and grandchildren and will be remembered for his quick wit, generous heart, and welcoming nature. He also had a deep appreciation for music, especially The Beatles.
In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his grandson, Grady Morton, and his brother, Don Simpson.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Cathy Simpson of the home; his son, John Simpson (Carrie) of Raleigh; his daughters, Patricia Vazquez (Anthony) of California and Crystal Morton (Adam Christman) of Jacksonville; his grandchildren, AJ (Katie), Tyler, Lucy, Haustyn, Dylan, Aden, Colton, Carter, Maggie, Kaesen, Addi, Tom, Bria, and Zoey; his nephew, Glenn Simpson.
Roger will be deeply missed, but his love, lessons, and memories will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
