Jacksonville-Longtime Onslow County resident Ronald “Ronnie” Lee Griffin, 74, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. He was born February 25, 1952, in Quantico, VA, son of the late Beauford and Ruth Jordan Griffin.
The Griffin family had a music store for many years in Jacksonville. Ronnie spent his early years working at the music store, and enjoyed helping people with his love of music. His talent for playing the organ and piano was very well known locally. He would often play on the weekends at local establishments, providing a relaxing atmosphere while people enjoyed their dining experience. Ronnie also enjoyed the finer things in life, Lincolns, Cadillacs, classic cars and fine dining with his wife and close friends. However, nothing compared to one of his greatest joys, helping others by providing the music for numerous weddings, funerals, and other special occasions. Most recently in life, he was blessed and honored to provide the music for the choir and congregation at his home church, Antioch Presbyterian.
Later in life, Ronnie worked at Onslow Memorial Hospital in many departments, always willing to assist people in any way possible. He eventually retired from the position of Patient Financial Coordinator at Onslow to spend more quality time with his wife, Debra and their beloved cat, “Kitty Boy”.
Ronnie had a wonderful family life and through the years had acquired a multitude of acquaintances and friends he considered his “extended family”. He is survived by his “sister” in law, Tracy Velez (Robert) of Jacksonville; niece and Goddaughter, Daniella Velez (Alexandra) of Corpus Christi TX; nephew Todd Burleson of Tennessee; great nephews Scott Burleson (Lindsey) of Tennessee; Daniel Burleson (Delanie) of Tennessee; cousins Patsy Johnson (Kenneth); Ted “Butch” Griffin (Wanda); Vicky Smith (Marvin); Joanne “Joanie” Starling (John); Maxine Catts (Bill). He is also survived by his faithful feline companions, Rascal and Kepi. He was preceded in death by his Beloved wife, Debra Ashley Griffin and “Kitty Boy”.
A funeral service to honor and remember Ronnie will be held Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home-Jacksonville. The family will receive friends Friday, November 6, 2026, from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, we’re most certain Ronnie would much prefer memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
