Rosina "Ro"
Karol Matthews
July 27, 1964 – February 10, 2025
JACKSONVILLE - With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Rosina "Ro" Karol Matthews, a beacon of love, kindness, and dedication, who left this world on February 10, 2025, at the age of 60. Her legacy is one of compassion, family devotion, and selfless service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Eleanore Gloeckler and a sister, Amy Sue Gloeckler. She is survived by her brothers, Neils and Alex Gloeckler, her husband, Jeff Matthews, her three children, James, Elizabeth, and Aaron Babcock, as well as by her three grandchildren, Kaelynn, Kaedynce, and James Babcock.
Rosina was the beloved and devoted wife of Jeff Matthews, whose partnership with her was one of unwavering love and support. She was a nurturing and cherished mother to her three children: James Andrew Babcock (wife Tabitha Babcock), Elizabeth Margaret Babcock, and Aaron Michel Babcock. Her pride and joy were her three grandchildren: Kaelynn Rose Babcock and James Patrick Babcock, children of James and Tabitha, and Kaedynce Elizabeth Babcock, daughter of Elizabeth. Known to them affectionately as their "Mimi," Rosina delighted in their laughter and milestones, and her love will forever be etched in their hearts.
Rosina's life was a testament to service. She began her career as a dedicated EMS officer turned training officer in Onslow County, where she trained countless first responders, ensuring that lives could be saved even in the most critical moments.
After retiring from this role, her passion for education continued as she became the Coordinator for the Emergency Medical Science department at Coastal Carolina Community College. Her students and colleagues knew her as a mentor, leader, and friend who worked tirelessly to uplift others and shape the future of emergency medical services.
Rosina's warmth extended beyond her professional life. She was the heart of every room she entered, known for her infectious laughter, endless hugs, and ability to make everyone feel important. Her kindness was boundless, and she believed deeply in the power of compassion to heal and unite.
Her family and community will miss her immeasurably, but her spirit will live on in the lessons she taught, the love she shared, and the many lives she touched. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of resilience, grace, and service to others.
A celebration of Rosina's life will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at Jones Funeral Home, 303 Chaney Ave., Jacksonville, NC, where friends and family are invited to share their memories and honor the incredible woman she was.
