Roy Lee Jones, 88, of Wilmington, NC, passed away Saturday, September 26th, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Roy was born May 3, 1938, in Jones County, North Carolina, to the late Becton Jones and Mildred Quinn Jones. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force before beginning what would become a lifetime in business.

Roy was a businessman through and through. Over the years, there were furniture stores, restaurants, and eventually his advertising agency, where he worked until retirement.

Roy shared 25 years of marriage with his wife, Janice, before her passing. He was also preceded in death by his youngest son, Keith Jones. He is survived by his sons, Michael (Cindy) of Fuquay-Varina, NC and Mark (Mary) of Wilmington, NC; and his brother-in-law, Roger Glenn of Canton, AL.

Roy worked hard, but he knew how to enjoy life, too. He lived life, and he lived it large. He loved golf, good music, and being around people. He was stubborn, something those who knew and loved him well would probably agree on, and he was always the life of the party. Roy loved to laugh, loved a good time, and had a way of making his presence known wherever he was.

For all the things Roy was throughout his life, his favorite title by far was Pop. He was deeply adored and cherished by his grandchildren Stephen Jones (Sarah), Emily Jones, Maggie Tyson (Josh), Creed Rassin, Melissa McCormick (Steven), Michael Jones (Katie), Holly Jones, Chelsea Jones, and Mallory Jones. That love carried right on to his twelve great-grandchildren: Ava, Camden, Eleanor, Haddie, Harper, Knox, Greyson, Rylan, Lillian, Kylie, Carter, and Blake. His family gave him some of his greatest joy, and there was never much doubt about how proud he was of them.

Roy also leaves behind his best friend, George Allen, and special family friends, David and Michelle Wishart and their son, Dylan, who meant so much to him.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the wonderful nursing staff at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center for the kindness and care they gave Roy in his final days.

A graveside service will be held Friday, October 2, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Onslow Memorial Park in Jacksonville, NC.
