Ruby Shipp Steiner passed away on Friday, November 25, 2011 at Onslow Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville. A Celebration of Ruby's Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel.
Born Ruby Elizabeth Shipp on October 11, 1928, she married her husband of 59 years, Jim on November 24, 1952. Ruby never met a stranger and was friendly to everyone she came across. She enjoyed ACC basketball, gardening, nature, and loved singing and listening to both gospel and country music. She also enjoyed traveling to Texas. She was the epitome of a military wife, keeping the family together while Jim served his country in the United States Marine Corps.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Naomi Shipp; and sister, Mary Denton.
Survivors include her husband, Jim along with their children, Sandy Pearce of Jacksonville, Tracie Hasslocher and her husband, Jimmy Hasslocher of San Antonio, TX; and her grandson, Jonathan Pearce; her sisters, Grace Shipp, Alice Shipp, Trudy Tyndall and husband, Davis of Clinton; brother, Joseph Shipp and wife, Mona, also of Clinton; sister-in-law, Margaret Hoffmann of Elmont, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 - 8 PM at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Zimmer Cancer Center or Northwoods United Methodist Church.
Ruby's family wishes to express gratitude to the caring staff at Zimmer Cancer Center in Wilmington and Onslow Memorial Hospital.
