JACKSONVILLE - Our devoted Dad, Samuel Louis Gordon, Sr. passed November 4, 2024, surrounded by family. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Jacksonville. Committal service will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

Mr. Gordon was born in Richmond, Virginia on July 26, 1936.  Married to his love in 1954, Barbara Ann for 62 years until her passing in 2017.  He was her knight in shining armor, the little boy she knew since they were nine years old, her Sammy.  They had four children. Susan Lamerton-New Port Richey, Florida, Rebecca Groenewold and husband, Rod Groenewold of Kingsport, Tennessee, Barbara Gordon Canavan and husband Darren Canavan of Jacksonville, NC, Samuel Gordon, Jr. and wife, Cathy Gordon of Brownsburg, Indiana. He also is survived by his current wife, Sandy Gordon, Richlands, NC and stepdaughter, Allison Mosley and husband Brian Mosley.  His loving grandchildren: Walter T. Lamerton and wife, Kat LamertonIIII, Virginia Diaz and husband Javier Diaz, Barbara Lamerton, Samuel Groenewold and wife, Lori Groenewold, Elijah Groenewold and wife, Brittany Groenewold, Shay Manjarres and husband Mark Manjarres, Elizabeth Massalene, Darren Canavan Jr., Alexander Canavan, Hayden Canavan, Samuel Gordon, III and wife, Sally Gordon, Sara Gordon, Drew Gordon, Benjamin Gordon and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Sam served in the United States Marine Corps from 1953 to 1973, and retired as a Captain.

Sam left this world to live eternal life and dwell in the house of the Lord that he served so diligently. Dad had a servant's heart and never met a stranger. His life exemplified this verse:  Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares…Hebrews 13:2. His Barbara waits no longer for her Knight in shining armor...her loving and devoted Sam.  We love you Dad and we are forever grateful for you…..Susan, Rebecca, Barbara and Samuel.

The family will receive friends Monday evening, November 11, 2024, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel.
