Obituary

Stephen “Woogers” Roberts, 71, born to the late Adele and Cole Roberts, formally of Keyport, NJ, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loving family on July 16, 2026. He was born on May 25, 1955 in Keyport, NJ where he spent his entire life until he and his wife, Sharon Roberts, retired to Beulaville, NC about three years ago.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Roberts of Beulaville, NC, his son, Wesley Roberts and wife Sarah of Long Branch, NJ, his son Kyle Roberts of Keyport, NJ, his stepson Michael Cornell of Beulaville, NC, stepson Daniel Cornell and wife Sarah of Jacksonville, NC and stepdaughter Ashley Cornell of Keyport, NJ along with four grandchildren, Everlee, Meadow, Augustus and Matteo and another grandson on the way. Stephen is also survived by his brother Billy Roberts and wife Kathy of Keyport, NJ, sister Colleen Smith of Keyport, NJ, and sister Sharon Lum of Keyport, NJ, along with many nieces and nephews.

Stephen graduated from Keyport High School in 1974 where he played basketball and football and he continued to stay involved in community sports such as baseball leagues throughout his young adult life. He also enjoyed attending Keyport High Schools sporting events even after his children graduated.

Stephen worked for K. Hovnanian as a construction site supervisor for 25 years and he later went on to work at Bethany Manor where he was loved and adored by all of his coworkers and the tenants of the building as well. Stephen was nothing short of a jokester who made people smile and laugh everywhere he went.

Stephen was a devoted husband, father, brother, friend and most importantly, his favorite role of “Pop Pop”. When he wasn’t working or spending time with family, he enjoyed watching any and every sport and playing golf.

Stephen will be extremely missed but his legacy will remain alive through all of the memories and love that everyone has shared with him throughout his life.
