Obituary

Jacksonville - Gunnery Sergeant Steven Roger Gullickson, 43, was called home to Christ from the comfort of his home surrounded by family on March 1, 2020.  He was born August 14, 1976 in Fargo, North Dakota to Roger and Jo Gullickson.

Steve served his family and his country in the United States Marine Corps with a fulfilling 20 year career. After his service, he stayed close to home to spend his time with his loving wife, children and grandchildren.

After a brief employment with Lowes, Steve found great joy in working at the garden center at Wal-Mart where he was always looking out for everyone and teaching along the way.  Some of Stu's favorite pastimes included watching NASCAR and chanting 'SKOL' with his Minnesota Vikings.

You could often find Steve trying to bring a smile to others faces, regardless of the pain he held within. His ability to be silly, embarrass himself so that others may laugh, was what many loved about his character.  He shared his loving spirit to make so many others lives better than his own.  For all of those things, we are truly blessed to have known him.  Those that knew him, loved him.  Those that loved him, became a part of him. Steve taught us that family is not defined by bloodlines but by the growth of our spirit to embrace the odds and persevere through the tough times together, as one.

Steve is survived by his wife of 21 years, Lea Gullickson; children, John (Chaunte), Michael, Christopher, Madison, Cameron, and HannahJo (Shauheem); grandchildren, Aiden, Asa, Audrey and Becca; father, Roger Gullickson; sister, Jennifer (Pete) Strand; nieces and nephews, Olivia, Evan and Charles; brother-in-law, Woodrow Witmond; mentor, SgtMaj Phillip Crawford and family. Preceded in death by mother Jo Gullickson and daughter HollyAnn Gullickson.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 7th at 11am at Jones Funeral Home, 303 Chaney Lane, Jacksonville.  Visitation Friday, March 6th from 6-8pm at Jones Funeral Home.

A special thank you to Community Home Care and Hospice for the loving comfort provided to Steve and family.
