Susan Rawles
Morton
March 2, 1950 – May 11, 2025
JACKSONVILLE - Susan Elizabeth Rawles Morton, 75, of Jacksonville, went to her heavenly reunion on Mother's Day, May 11, 2025, while holding the hands of her daughters. Services will be held at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Trinity Methodist Church. The family will see friends one hour before the service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the church entrance.
She was the widow to James Michael Morton, after sharing 49 years together.
Born in Charlotte NC, on March 2, 1950, she was the daughter to Lois (McLelland) and Rev. Ira H. Rawles. After graduating from Jacksonville Senior High School in 1968, she proudly received a Master's Degree in Biology at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and was certified as a Medical Lab Technologist at Forsythe Memorial Hospital. She spent her career as a Biology and MLT Instructor at Coastal Carolina Community College for a respectable 40 years. She dedicated herself to teaching and passionate about her chosen field. Her knowledge was endless.
She was an avid member of Trinity United Methodist Church, in which she enjoyed singing in the church choir. She also enjoyed singing so much, she also sang in the Coastal Carolina Community Choir. She loved giving to others and donated to many charities. She regularly did the selfless act of donating blood to the American Red Cross. She will always be remembered for her bright and talkative personality. She cared about everyone and never met a stranger. Aside from being a wonderful mother, her greatest accomplishment was becoming a Gigi to her three grandchildren. She adored them and took so much joy in their lives. Now we will watch for cardinals and know she is still watching over us.
She is survived by her twin daughters, Sarah Beth Morton and Joy Smith (Jesse); grandchildren, Jack River Smith, Eden Stone Smith, and Ember James Smith; and by her sister Sarah Tracy.
In lieu of flowers, the family will graciously except love offerings sent to 1113 Clifton Rd, Jacksonville NC 28540.
