Emerald Isle- Sylvia Fout Mauk, 93, passed away at the Crystal Coast Hospice House on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. She was born October 11, 1932, in Wheelersburg, OH, a daughter of the late Raymond and Vera Jennings Fout.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Sylvia was a homemaker and loved to spend time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Thaisa M. Focht of Emerald Isle and Cheryl L. Balthrop (Brian) of Newport; grandchildren, Matthew Balthrop, Caitlin Baer, Kendrea Garand, James Mauk, II, Jared Mauk; and great-grandchildren, James, Ayden, and Harper Baer and Melody Garand.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Mauk; grandson, Brian Hughes; son, Stephen J. Mauk; and sister, JoAnn Roe.
