Tate was born on April 25, 1995 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Jacqueline Wiederin Sward and Todd Wenck. Tate was on active duty in the United States Marine Corps since May 2014, working as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) technician. He was recently promoted to Staff Sergeant. Tate deployed twice, most recently with the 24th MEU as an EOD tech where he received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device. Tate was "double badged" with the EOD insignia (the Crab) and the Parachutist insignia.

Tate was unapologetically unique, with a great sense of humor, an infectious smile, a quirky laugh, and a generous heart for both people and animals. He was a loyal husband, father, son, brother, and friend. Tate was deeply observant and attentive which drove how much he cared for those he loved. His faith was foundational for him. He leaned on his faith and his favorite Bible verse Joshua 1:9. During trials and hardship he walked through life unquestioning because he truly believed God was always with him and guiding him.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

Joshua 1:9

Tate is preceded in death by his godmother & aunt, Joleen Stork and his Marine comrade Nicole Gee.
