JACKSONVILLE  -  Teresa Carter Slater, 74, of Jacksonville, NC, has passed away Friday, December 19, 2025 at Novant-NHRMC Hospital in Wilmington, NC.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 29, 2025 at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel.  Burial will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

A devoted wife, mother, and "Grammie", she is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Niels; her son, David; her daughter, Courtney; and her six grandchildren: Jacob, Madison, Aidyn, Jenna, Carter, and Finley, as well as by her siblings Robert Carter, Kathy Hall, and Tammy Mabe. She worked for nearly 40 years in the federal Civil Service, with most of that time spent working with military families in the Beneficiary Assistance office.

In life, Teresa's passion were girl scouting, baking and cooking, and gardening. She spent a good bit of her life involved in girl scouting, first as a girl, and then later as both a troop leader, service unit cookie coordinator, and as a trainer for her local council specializing on Outdoor Cooking. As a very "hands-on" grandmother, she passed her love of baking and cooking on to her grandchildren by having them help her in the kitchen from a young age. She has also employed these skills to can vegetables from her garden and to make jams. Beloved by everyone who knew her, her influence continues to be felt by her friends, family, former girl scouts, and by those she helped in her job.
