Reverend Van Ray Lawing

Reverend Van Ray Lawing went to be with the Lord on October 5, 2025.  He was born August 16, 1957 in Marion, NC.

Memorial Services will be held at Providence Baptist Church on October 18, 2025.

Van worked various jobs, such as Krispy Kreme and Betty's Basket as a young adult to support his wife and children.  In the early 90's, he joined his family's business, Lawing Lodge.  He continued to work at and run the lodge until 2001, when it went out of business.  He then began working for RC Cola/Cheerwine.  During this time, he pursued his master's degree in biblical studies and began preaching at Lakewood Baptist Church in Black Mountain, NC.  In 2020, he retired from both Cheerwine and the church so that he and his wife could fulfill their dream of retiring at the beach.  Van fell in love with his new home, church family at Providence Baptists Church, and his new life.  He was also able to go on mission trips to Honduras twice and was eager to go on more.  He also loved music and playing golf.

Van is survived by his wife, Pam Lawing; daughter, Amanda Dorlan; son, Adam Lawing (Renee); grandchildren, Daniel and Matthew Dorlan.  Zoe, Emma, Josie, Lucy, and Kaycie Lawing; sister, Gail Lawing

He is preceded in death by his father, Eugene Lawing; and his mother, Betty Lawing.
