Jacksonville NC - With deep love and sadness, we announce the passing of Vernon L Prevatte, who departed this life on July 3, 2026 at the age of 68, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare.

A private service will be held on a later date.

Vernon was born on November 26,1957 in Alamance County, North Carolina to the late Ether Deese Prevatte and Paul Vernon Adams, SR. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Billie Cates and brother, Robert Prevatte.

Vernon proudly served his country in the United States Army. He carried a deep sense of duty and took great pride in being a veteran. Following his Military Service, Vernon worked as a heavy machinery operator.

Vernon was a devoted father and a proud POP POP to his two beautiful grandsons and loved being with his family. He will be remembered for his strength, kindness, wisdom,unwavering love, and the countless memories he created with family and friends.

He is survived by his daughter, Harli Prevatte and her fiance Albert Fuentes of Jacksonville NC; grandchildren Dontae Slade, Albert Fuentes,Jr., and baby Lila Lee Fuentes; sibling, Elaine Cowan of Burlington, NC, James Prevatte of Las Vegas, NV, Betty Slade of Burlington, NC, Nealy Ray Prevatte of Chapel Hill, NC and Paul Adams, Jr of Evertte, WA; very special brother-in-law Frederick Slade who was like a brother, and many other beloved relatives and friends.
