Obituary

Wendell Bonner Johns (82) passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior on January 6, 2024, in Jacksonville, North Carolina, surrounded by his family.  He had a kind and gentle spirit, was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a beloved Papa.

Wendell is survived by his wife, Sue ("Suzie"), of 61 years; his son, Keith (Jana) Johns of Franklin, VA; his daughter, Tonya (Monte) Morton, of Hubert, NC; 4 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; his sister, Dale McCorkle of Texas; and his brother, Russel (Linda) Johns of Texas.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugenia "Genie" Bonner and William Bascom "Black Cat" Johns of Texas; his sister Margilee Rozell; and his sister Terry Northcutt, both of Texas.

Wendell was born in Arp, Texas, on September 30, 1941.  He married his loving bride on October 27, 1962, and they quickly moved to Dallas to begin his career as a Mechanical Engineer for Texas Instruments.  Although the company name changed several times, he continued with the same group for 50 amazing years and retired from L3 Communications in 2012 as Senior Sustainment Engineer.  In 2017, Wendell and Sue moved to Swansboro, NC, where they have lived for the past seven years.

Not only was Wendell a brilliant engineer, but he was a living example of kindness, generosity, and love.  He loved his tractor, fishing, Suzie, and Jesus.  He will be missed by all those that had the privilege to know him.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held in the Spring in his home state of Texas on a date to be determined.
