Jacksonville- William Hendrix Whaley Sr., 96, of Jacksonville passed away Sunday, June 18th, 2023 at The Heritage of Richlands. A Memorial Service will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church on August 26, 2023 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Damon Williamson officiating.

He was born February, 22nd, 1927 in Duplin County to the late William and Nell Whaley.

A loving husband, father, and grandfather he ensured that family always came first.

In life he honorably served in the United States Army, before starting his career in construction and home improvement. In his free time you could find him fishing at North Topsail Beach, doing home projects and spending time with his beloved cat Sparky.

He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and loved The Lord.  After retirement, he began a prison ministry with several of his friends. They would visit young men who were struggling in their lives and encouraged them to find hope, faith, and redemption in Jesus Christ.

He is proceeded in death by his late wife, Hulda VunCannon Whaley, to whom he was married for 68 years. His son, Richard Jarrell Whaley, daughter Rosa Pettys Nash, and brother Joseph Robert Whaley.

He is survived by his 3 sons, William Hendrix Whaley, Jr. of Currie, William Joel Whaley of Columbus Ohio, Kemper Dean Whaley of Jacksonville, and many adored grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
