William J. Marr Jr., 90, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 1, 2026, at UNC Chapel Hill Medical Center.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 11, at Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville, North Carolina. A funeral service to celebrate William's life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, at Living Hope Baptist Church. William will be laid to rest at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.

William proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 20 years before retiring. He later gave back to his community as a volunteer firefighter with the Pumpkin Center Volunteer Fire Department and as a devoted, longtime member of Living Hope Baptist Church. Known for his kind heart and steady hands, William found joy in helping others, often sharing his talent as a skilled carpenter with anyone in need.

William was preceded in death by his first wife, Bettie Marr; his second wife, Betty Marr; his parents, William Sr. and Louise Marr; his son, Charles Raymond Marr; and his daughter, Ellen Marie Wilson.

He leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory always, including his daughters, Frances Robertson and Carolyn Murray; his stepchildren, LeeAnn Jackson, Rebecca Hoffman, Cathy Rickman, and Richard Todd; his brother, Donald Marr; his sister, Shirley Baker; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
