Obituary

Woodrow "Woody" Haskell Myers passed away peacefully at Transition Life Care in Raleigh, North Carolina on January 14, 2026, after a brief illness.  He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Shirley Klosner Myers of Chesapeake, Virginia; daughters Evelyn "Eve" Key (Doug), and Judy Ogden (John); grandsons Stuart Ferrell (Stephanie), Patrick Ferrell and Andrew Ogden; great grandsons Woodson Ferrell and Yates Ferrell.  Stepdaughters Shari Brinkman (Rand) and Sara Hahne (Dan); step grandchildren Logan Key (Lindsay), Kathryn Hahne (Charlie) and Andrew Hahne.  Step great grandchildren Sam Key and Emma Key.

Woody was born in Burgaw, NC February 16,1930 to Lawyer Quinton and Florence Mallard Myers.  He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings (Louise, James, LQ, Jr., Gwendolyn, Earl, Andrew and Betty).

Woody served one year in the US Navy in 1948.  He later married Patricia Lyon, moved to Dunn, NC where they raised their daughters.  He graduated from Campbell College and North Carolina State University.  Woody taught at Erwin High School and later joined Corbin Construction Company.  After moving his family to Hampstead NC, he worked for East Coast Construction Company and Onslow Utilities.  After his "first" retirement he received his Brokers license and worked for Fountain Realty.

Woody was a member of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce, Military Affairs Committee and the Jacksonville Breakfast Rotary Club. He served many years on the Coastal Carolina Community College Foundation Board, and the Board of Directors at Wachovia Bank and Trust Company.  Woody was an Onslow County representative for the North Carolina State University Wolfpack Club and served on the N.C. State Parks Scholarship Advisory Committee.   He was a Member of Semper Fidelis Masonic Lodge and Onslow Shrine Club.  Woody served on the Beirut Memorial Advisory Committee and was personally honored to assist in the advancement of the construction of The Beirut Memorial. In 2018, Woody was awarded The Fabric of Community Award by the Onslow Civic Affairs Committee for his contribution to improving, strengthening and benefiting the Jacksonville Community.

Woody always enjoyed living on or near the water so he could go fishing and shrimping.  He enjoyed being able to share his catches with others and had excellent "fish frying and oyster shucking" skills.

To all who knew him, Woody was an intelligent, talented, energetic and kind gentleman, and will be missed by his family and friends.

Family will receive friends Monday, February 23, 2026, 5 until 7 pm at Jones Funeral Home located at 303 Chaney Avenue, Jacksonville, NC.  Graveside service with Masonic and Military honors will take place Tuesday, February 24, at 10:00-10:30 am at the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery located at 110 Montford Landing Road, Jacksonville, NC.   In lieu of flowers, Woody requested that donations be made to the Florence Mallard Myers Nursing Scholarship Fund or the Earl Worth Myers Scholarship Fund at Coastal Carolina Community College.  Donations can be mailed to CCCC Scholarship Fund, 444 Western Blvd., Jacksonville, NC 28546.
