SNEADS FERRY - Alfred James Wortman, Sr., 82, of Sneads Ferry, beloved husband, father and grandfather, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, October 6, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Jones Funeral Home, Holly Ridge Chapel with Rev. Jamie Silance officiating. Entombment will follow at Onslow Memorial Park.
Mr. Wortman served for 24 years in the USMC before having to retire as a MGySgt due to a service connected injury. He then went on to serve as a volunteer fireman for SCVFD, was a tower operator for the Forestry Service and drove a school bus for Topsail High School (to spy on his children in school). He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Wortman Kirkpatrick and Fred Wortman of Banock, OH.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Anne Wortman; his children, Alfred Wortman, Jr. (Bridget) of Rocky Point, Brian Wortman (Lee) of Sneads Ferry and Anita Jones (David) of Hampstead; six grandchildren, Michael and Catie, Randy and Alayna and Hunter and Alia; and two great-grandchildren, Lillith and Iris.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from from 5 – 7 PM at the funeral home.
