We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Swansboro
Betty Ann Cannon Rawls, 80, of 1201 Mt Pleasant Road, Swansboro, NC, went to her heavenly home Tuesday, May 24, 2022 in her home where she was being cared for by her family and two wonderful caregivers.
Betty was born in Swansboro, NC on October 26, 1941 and was the daughter of the late Namon Graham Cannon and Beulah Phillips Cannon.
Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Preston Clayton Rawls, her son, Preston Clayton Rawls, Jr., and her brother, Jerry Cannon of Newport.
Betty was a graduate of Swansboro High school where she was crowned Miss Swansboro a few weeks shy of her 18th birthday. After graduating, she and Preston were married on June 18, 1960, in Swansboro. While raising her children, Betty owned a daycare, and was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Swansboro where she enjoyed singing in the choir and was heavily involved with Children’s ministries. After her children were grown, Betty enjoyed working at Jones Funeral Home for over 30 years where she loved helping others and being a part of the Jones Funeral Home family.
Betty loved her family, music, cooking, and sitting on her back porch.
She is survived by her daughter, Angela Rawls and husband, TC Cleve; grandson, Justin Kyle Cleve and wife, Allison of Swansboro; granddaughter, Kylie Alexis Cleve of Morehead City. Also surviving are two great-granddaughters who loved their “Nana”, Madeline Baye Cleve and Presley Elizabeth Cleve, and also many extended family members.
Funeral services will be held at Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Swansboro on May 27, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Patrick Whaley officiating. Burial will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Betty’s family would like to thank Patty Brown, Libbi Blevins, Karen Woodrum and the many friends and family for their comforting care throughout her journey.
In lieu of flowers, Betty’s wishes were for donations to be made to First Baptist Church Music Dept. 614 W. Corbett Ave., Swansboro, NC 28584, or to a charity of one’s choice. Betty had a loving and kind heart and she loved helping others.
