Obituary

JACKSONVILLE -  Ellen Marie Powell Smith, 79, was born on February 15, 1941 in Clinton, North Carolina. She passed away on January 12, 2021 in Onslow County. A funeral service is planned 1:00PM Friday, January 22, 2021with Rev. Jody Yopp officiating.  A graveside service will follow the chapel service and will be held at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.

Ellen was preceded in death by husband Alex G. Smith; her parents, Walter Thomas and Lillian Hines Powell of Sampson County.

Ellen is survived by daughter, Teresa Smith Ortega and husband Carlos of Jacksonville, one son, Allen G. Smith and wife Dorothy of Fayetteville; daughter, Lorraine Smith Walton and husband Al of Maysville, one brother, James Powell and wife Ruby of Archdale; two sisters, Belle Staton and Faye Troxler and husband Curtis both of Archdale; three grandchildren, Nichole Barnes, Cheyenne Ortega and Ismael Ortega; one great-grandson, Chase Barnes.

A visitation is planned for 12:00PM,1 hour prior to the Funeral service

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's, Eastern NC Chapter, 5171 Glenwood Ave. Suite 101, Raleigh, NC 27612. or any desired charity.
