Henry M. (Hank) Wash Jr., of Richlands, passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021. He was born to Henry & Josephine Wash on June 12, 1956, at Camp Lejeune, NC. Hank grew up in Virginia and in 1973, at the age of 17, he followed his father’s footsteps and joined the Marine Corp. He proudly served his country for 20 years (and 1 day) until he retired as a Gunnery Sergeant in 1993. Hank believed in working hard to provide for his family, so after his military retirement he continued working for another 22 years as a Senior Aircraft Pneudraulic Systems Mechanic Specialist at Cherry Point Air Force Base in Havelock, NC. Hank loved to be outdoors hunting, fishing, building and fixing things. He loved his family more than anything and was a great role model for his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Hank was preceded in death by his father & mother-in-law, John & Darlene Smith.
Hank is survived by the love of his life & wife of 40 years, Patricia Wash; children, Daniel Jacoby & wife Heather; Brenda Schuffert & husband Dale; and Hank Wash & wife Brandi; grandchildren, Brice, Breton and Emily Schuffert, Cassidy Jacoby, Graysen, Alexa & Hayden Wash; sister, Lori Harrell & husband Frank; brother Bill Wash and wife Darlene; and multiple nieces and nephews. He also had two dogs he adored, Abby & Maggie.
Visitation will be held at Jones Funeral Home in Richlands on Thursday, September 9, 2021, from 6-8 pm. The funeral will be held at Jones Funeral Home on Friday, September 10, 2021, followed by a burial with military honors at the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, NC at 2 pm.
The family would like to thank the staff of Croatan Ridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of Newport, The Alzheimer’s Related Care (ARC) Community of Jacksonville and 3HC Hospice of Pollocksville for the care they provided Hank over the past several months.
