Jacksonville- Hulda VunCannon Whaley, 86, of Jacksonville passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 12th at Premier Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she had hundreds of friends in the Jacksonville Community and always found time to meet new people. Family was her number one priority. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and showered them with love every time they came to visit. She loved the Lord and often gave sound advice which she took from the Bible. A long time member of Living Hope Community Church (former New River Baptist Church). She leaves behind many dear friends whom she loved and who loved her.
She worked for over 20 years as head seamstress for Belk Department Store before retiring in 1992. After retirement, she devoted her time to family and friends.
With an eye for fashion, she always looked stunning in anything she wore. An avid collector of miniature sewing machines and doing crossword puzzles were favored pastimes of hers. She loved the colors purple and pink and adored cats.
She was preceded in death by her son, Richard Jarrell Whaley along with 3 sisters and 5 brothers.
She is survived by her faithful husband of 68 years, William H. Whaley, two sons, William Joel Whaley of Columbus, Ohio, Kemper Dean Whaley of Jacksonville and a sister, Catherine Duffy of Clemmons, NC.
