Jim was born March 21, 1947, in Norfolk, VA, to James Garland Freeman, Sr, and O'Rean Helma Randall. He was their only child. As the son of an active-duty United States Marine, Jim grew up throughout the Eastern and Midwestern United States, ultimately making his life-long home in the Jacksonville and Hubert areas. After graduating from Jacksonville High School, he attended Bob Jones University and the College of Wilmington. He went on to work in multiple industries before embracing his entrepreneurial spirit and opening his own local business.
In 1978, he was blessed to marry the love of his life, Margaret Faulkner. For him, there was no other. They would celebrate their 44th wedding anniversary on Saturday, June 25th, 2022. God gifted them with three exceptional children and multiple grandchildren, who brought Jim immense joy.
Jim was a devoted husband and father who deeply loved his family, with a self-sacrificing work ethic who always placed others before himself. He opened his heart and home to others without hesitation, always ensuring anyone who stopped by had a meal and readily embracing his children's friends as family. A Christian with a heart for service, Jim was a steadfast supporter of multiple charities, including Feed the Children, Special Olympics, the World Wildlife Fund, and the ASPCA. He cared deeply for animals, particularly his cats, who made him smile every day.
Jim is survived by his wife Margaret Freeman, son James G. Freeman III (Gina Riojas), son Phillip R. Freeman, daughter Jamie-Carol Freeman-Nettles (James); and five grandchildren -- Nathan, Naomi, Jordan, Julie, James IV.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests to honor Jim's legacy of support and service with donations to Feed the Children, whom Jim supported for over 27 years.
