Mr. Shepard is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Margie Parker Shepard.  Together they have three children, Kasaundra Shepard Lemon (Michael) of Fuquay-Varina, Johnny Galond Shepard (Kelly) of Haws Run, and Jacqueline Shepard Taylor (Mike) of Whispering Pines.  He was a proud Papa of six grandchildren, Kendra Burdeau, Anthony Burdeau, Alyssa Burdeau Austin (Bryan), Colby Shepard, Lindsey Gaddy (fiancé Ryan Branagan), and Bethany Gaddy; two great grandchildren, Jordyn and Ryleigh Burdeau; and beloved cat “Oliver”.

Born and raised in Onslow County, Johnny was the son of Morris and Dolly Shepard (predeceased).  He was one of their five children, Maureen Turnage (Edward), Morris Shepard Sr. (Mel) (both predeceased), Mazie Ferguson (predeceased) (Ray), and George Shepard (Doris).  Johnny also had numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.

Johnny attended Dixon High School (Class of 1962) and worked for Weyerhaeuser for 25 years.  He was an accomplished carpenter and skilled craftsman.  From building swings and birdhouses to renovating historic homes, he put a piece of his heart in all that he did.  He served as a Deacon at Lighthouse Baptist Church.

One of the kindest souls on this planet, our Papa was a gentle, giving man who worked tirelessly to ensure that his family had everything they needed.  He faced every challenge in life with admirable strength and courage.  He was a man of strong faith and he taught us the importance of family, hard work, and always doing what is right.
