On Sunday. November 20, 2022, Major passed peacefully from this life to his eternal home in heaven with the Jesus he knew and loved. Undoubtedly, he was also greeted by his loving wife of 65 years, Mildred Midgett, his parents, many of his brothers and sisters, and so many beloved friends. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 26 at 1:00pm at Blue Creek Baptist Church with Dr. Wes Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Jacksonville City Cemetery.
Major was borne in Sneads Ferry. He was the nineth of eleven children born to Bryd and Callie Hall Midgett. He was born during the great depression, but he and his family thrived because of their great love and devotion to one another. Though times were hard, there are too many wonderful stories of he and his brothers and sisters playing together and joking with one another. Major was always so proud of his family, where he came from, and the strength of the bond between he and his brothers and sisters. Major was born to sell, and at a young age had a dream to have a business of his own. When he had enough money from selling newspapers, comic books, and bicycle repair, he opened his own store. He opened Major Appliance and Furniture Company over 65 years ago, and his boyhood dream was a reality. He has had a successful and thriving business for well over 60 years. He attributes his success to his relationship with Jesus Christ and seeking His guidance in business decisions he made throughout the years. He also attributes his success to having his devoted wife Mildred by his side, and as an encourager and loyal supporter in everything that he did personally and in business. He above all strived to do everything that he did in life with integrity and compassion. He felt that his greatest accomplishments were knowing Jesus, being married to Mildred, his children, being a “Midgett” and a part of his big Sneads Ferry family, and having customers who trusted him and became family to him over the years.
Major’s children would like to thank his many customers who became family to him and to us over the years. It was his greatest joy to see you come to visit and shop with him. He was so proud of your trust and friendship. He would want for you to remember that his word was his bond. He loved you with all of his heart, and when he told you he loved you, he meant it.
Major was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mildred Barfield Midgett, his parents Byrd and Callie Hall MIdgett, his brothers Johnnie Merle, Earl, Luther, Lynn, and Maryland; his sisters Hattie, Ruby, Callie Ruth, and Janice.
He is survived by his children, Brenda Midgett Lewis (Wade), William Midgett, and Vickie Midgett; his brother Edgar Midgett (Gwen); his grandchildren: Lola Love McPartland, Lance Love, Wade Lewis, Jr.,Jewel Windham Hawley, Zachary Windham, Isabella Midgett; his great grandchildren: Penelope Perez, Annabel McPartland, Joshua Hawley, and Scarlet Hawley.
