Phyllis Quinn Trott, 81, died Tuesday, September 7, 2021 in Jacksonville, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Trott, Jr.; parents, Mabel Lanier Quinn and Wayne Quinn; and brother, Adonis Quinn.
A native of Duplin County, Phyllis graduated from Beaulaville High School in 1958. She later attended East Carolina University where she obtained a degree in elementary education. Following three years of teaching, Phyllis focused on raising her daughters and eventually became a key part of Trott Furniture Company.
Phyllis was a member of numerous civic and volunteer organizations in Onslow County throughout her life. As an original member of the Museum Board of Onslow County, she was an enthusiastic supporter of the museum’s special programs and also served as chairman of the local library board. She was instrumental in bringing CHIPS (Community Health Initiative Program) to the area. The Richlands Chamber of Commerce awarded her Mother of the Year, and in 1982, Phyllis received the Governor’s Volunteer Award.
As a long-time active member of Richlands United Methodist Church, Phyllis held several offices, including lay leader, and served on a number of committees. Two lasting contributions have been her work in helping secure a grant to establish the Richlands Outreach Ministries and her participation on the committee to spearhead the formation of the Senior Life Center.
Phyllis’ dedication, determination and concern for others were clearly evidenced through her numerous church and civic contributions. Having an appreciation for the beauty of God’s creation, she enjoyed the outdoors, especially the preservation of the lovely old garden at the Senior Life Center and time at her Duplin County ‘home place’. Befriending animals and projects with grandsons brought her much joy. Phyllis had a special and unique bond with each grandchild. She was loved by her family and many friends for her laughter, generous spirit, enjoyment of life, and youthfulness.
Phyllis leaves behind her beloved family of daughter Debra Trott Clark and husband Jeff and daughter Lori Trott Aragona and husband Martin; four special grandchildren, Stetson Clark and wife Melissa, Kirsten Clark (“her favorite granddaughter”), Nicolas Aragona and Stefan Aragona; and great grandchildren Cameron Clark and Emily Clark. Other survivors include sisters-in-law Brenda Quinn and Betty Trott Kornegay and husband Kenneth; a niece Rita Quinn; and nephews Tim Quinn, Greg Kornegay and Jeffrey Kornegay; and special friend Jerry Thigpen.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, September 10 at Jones Funeral Home in Richlands. A funeral service will be held at the Richlands United Methodist Church at 1:30 on Saturday, September 11, followed by burial in Onslow Memorial Park, Jacksonville, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Phyllis Trott Memorial Fund, Richlands United Methodist Church. P.O. Box 1217, Richlands, NC 28574.
