Ray Harding Williams, Jr. of Sneads Ferry, North Carolina, died in the presence of his family at the heart center at UNC Chapel Hill Thursday, February 6, 2020.
Ray, a native of Sneads Ferry, was preceded in death by his parents Ray Sr, and Henrietta, of Sneads Ferry. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth Williams; a daughter, Tara Williams of Hilo, Hawaii; a son Ray Williams III and daughter-in-law Sandy, of New Bern, North Carolina; and four grandchildren, Hannah Williams, Andrea Williams, Ray Williams IV, and Olivia Williams. Ray leaves behind three sisters, Betty Richardson, Irene Shumate, and Laura Shingleton; and one brother Jeff Williams.
Ray was a veteran of the US Navy, and worked at GE in Castle Hayne, NC for over thirty years. Ray spent many years as a coach and a Scout leader. He enjoyed, golfing, camping, kayaking, fishing, collecting waterfowl decoys, eating seafood, and spending time with his family and friends. In his last days, he spoke often of his friends and grandchildren and how much he loved them. Since childhood, he was a member of Carroll's Chapel United Methodist Church, and later the First United Methodist Church of Sneads Ferry.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, February 12th with a funeral service following at 12:30 pm at the First United Methodist Church, 305 Lakeside Drive, Sneads Ferry, NC. Following the funeral service, Ray will be interred at the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Montford Landing Road, Jacksonville, NC.
