Jacksonville, NC- Raymond Walter “Walt” Thompson, Sr., 78 of Jacksonville, passed away April 3rd of 2020 at his home.
A graveside memorial service with military honors will be held on Monday, August 9th at 10am at the Coastal Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery.
Walt was born May 1st, 1941 in Philadelphia, PA. He enlisted into the Marines in 1959 and was honorably discharged after 22 years of service. He later married the love of his life, Joanne Thompson. After retiring from the Marines he had many hobbies and enjoyed helping his friend with computer questions. He also enjoyed recording the church services for Pine Valley United Methodist Church.
Walt is preceded in death by his wife Joanne Litzenburg Thompson, parents John and Dorothy Thompson, and sisters Patricia Flood and Marian Edgmon. He is survived by his daughters Linda Waters and husband Dennis of Maysville, NC, Joanne Costantino of Wake Forest, NC, and Deborah Doom and husband Scott of Colfax, NC; sons David Cullen of Wilmington, NC and Raymond Walter Thompson, Jr. and wife Traci of High Point, NC; sister Jacqueline Asteris and husband Paul of Avondale, PA; brother John Thompson and wife Annie of Lakeland, FL; grandchildren Eddie Holland, Jr. of Jacksonville, Melissa Shores and husband Matthew of Queens, NY, Natalie Costantino of Wake Forest, NC, Charlie Costantino of Wake Forest, NC, Lindsey Costantino of Wake Forest, NC, Amber Doom of Colfax, NC, Megan Doom of Colfax, NC, and Jack Thompson of High Point, NC; and great grandchildren Emma Kate Shores, Nora Jane Shores, Lila Grace Shores, Tesa Claire Shores, and Ella Grace Holland.
