Rev. Charles Luther Pollock (82) (September 21, 1940 – March 15, 2023) passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Duke University Medical Center peacefully after a brief illness. Charles was born in Midway, Pennsylvania on September 21, 1940, to the late Rev. Henry Fulton Pollock (Pittsburg, PA) and Marguerite Florence Pollock (Science Hill, KY). Charles is survived by his wife, Irene Ellis Pollock of Jacksonville NC, brother Rev. Bob Pollock of Franklin IN, brother Rev. Jim Pollock of Johnson City TN, daughter Debbie Myers and husband John of Jacksonville NC, son Robbie Pollock and wife Jenny of Garner NC, daughter Julie Ervin and husband Steven of Richlands NC, son Eddie Pollock and wife Carrie of Jacksonville NC, step daughters Shari McPeak and husband Randy of Jacksonville NC, and Shirley Morrison of Jacksonville NC, step sons David Jernigan and wife Joy of Jacksonville NC, and Keith Jernigan of Jacksonville NC, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren and 8 step great grandchildren.
Charles is preceded in death by his brother Rev. Henry Morison Pollock (surviving spouse Jean Pollock) of Reidsville, NC and infant brother Francis Asbury Pollock.
Rev. Charles Pollock faithfully served his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through 40 years of full time ministry as a United Methodist Minister. He was ordained as a Deacon and an Elder and received his bachelor’s degree in Ordained Ministry from Southeastern Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC and his Master of Divinity from Duke University in Durham NC. He faithfully served local church appointments at: Lyon Memorial (Fayetteville), Holly Springs, Turkey, Wake Forest, Christ (Fayetteville), Richlands, First Church Washington (NC), North Raleigh, Aldersgate (Durham), Chestnut Street (Lumberton), First Elizabeth City, Ann Street (Beaufort NC). After retiring from full time ministry in 2004, Charles served as Interim Supply at Reelsboro (New Bern) until 2010.
Rev. Charles Pollock was active in the United Methodist Church where he served on the many denominational committees. Board of Ordained Ministry, Clergy Living Committee, Insurance Committee, Conference Entertainment, Sound District Trustee, Joint Committee on Incapacity.
In his spare time, Charles was an avid gardener and spent much of his time working in his yard planting trees and flowers. His home was his sanctuary, and he was at peace when he was home. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife Irene to the Great Smoky Mountains and traveling to Tennessee and Indiana to visit his brothers. In recent years, Charles traveled and sang with his 3 brothers (all United Methodist Ministers) as the Pollock Brothers Quartet. He loved the Duke Blue Devils, The Los Angeles Dodgers, Buick automobiles and good food.
The family will receive friends at Jones Funeral Home, 303 Chaney Avenue, Jacksonville, NC 28540 on Friday, March 17, 2023, between 4pm and 6pm. The funeral will be held at Trinity Methodist Church, 301 Marine Blvd, Jacksonville, NC 28540 on March 18, 2023, at 2pm. Burial will follow at Onslow Memorial Gardens, 3280 Richlands Hwy, Jacksonville, NC 28540.
