Timothy John Smith

February 21, 1959 ~ January 24, 2022 (age 62)

HUBERT  -  Timothy John Smith passed away on January 24, 2022 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC. His family has organized a memorial service to honor Tim’s life and military service, which will be held at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at 1:00 PM followed by a Flag Ceremony at Coastal Carolina Veterans Cemetery at 2:00 PM and food reception at Christian Life Fellowship Church on Summersill starting at 3:30 PM.

Tim was born on February 21, 1959 in Aurora, CO to Michael and Amelia Smith. Tim believed in working hard, caring for his family and serving his country. After graduating from Smokey Hills High School in 1977, he left his job at Long John Silvers and joined the Marine Corps, where he served honorable for 20 years including a tour in Lebanon in Support of Multinational Forces.

Tim was a simple, patient and kind man who always put others before himself. For several years he was a single father who worked two jobs to care for his family. He provided military MREs (Meals Ready-to-Eat) for dinner, cleaned the house while watching the Smurfs, and ran forgotten lunchboxes to his hungry kids at school-he was our Superman.

Tim believed that the secret of a happy marriage is taking the time to find the right person. He married Barbara Louise on January 20, 1990. Both had two children from previous marriages and together they welcomed one son. To get the full value of a marriage you must have a true partner to divide it with. They found that in each other, sharing 32 years together.

Tim was a strong man who never gave up and never complained. His memory will be etched in our hearts forever. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Smith; daughter, Natasha May (husband Nathan); sons, John-Allen Smith and Anthony Smith; step-daughter, Jessica Howard; step-son, Jason Stooks (wife Stacy); grandchild, Amelia May (3); and step-grandchildren, Cheyenne (22), Hannah (17), Grace (16), Michael (13), Rachel (12), Elijah (10), Rebekah-Hope (8), Annalise (6), Nathaniel (5), and Phillip (3).
