Vivian Owensby Hill, 87, of Jacksonville, NC, passed away on June 12, at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center in Wilmington, NC after a long battle with cancer.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, June 20th at Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville, NC.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am immediately following visitation in the chapel with Pastor Ryan Hearn of Brookwood Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. All arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home.
Vivian was born in Commerce, Georgia to Otis Owensby and Pauline Owensby Leachman on July 27, 1934. She went to school in Commerce and upon graduation traveled to California to live with her older sister, Eva and her navy husband, Charles Brewer. It was there she met and married the love of her life, John Luther Hill, on March 30th, 1953 in California. She worked in the home all of her life as a military wife and mother. She was involved in the Southern Baptist church, the Military Wives Association, Women’s International Bowling Congress and bowling leagues. She received numerous recognitions from her church for her many years of service, numerous awards and trophies for her bowling and participation in WIBC and was placed in the Bowling Hall Of Fame for her perfect game of 300.
Vivian is preceded in death by her husband, John, her parents, Otis Owensby and Pauline Owensby Leachman and her older sister, Eva Brewer.
Vivian is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Hill Pearson and her husband, Tom Pearson, grandson, Bryan Thomas Pearson, his wife Leslie, grandson, John Michael Pearson, his wife Megan, all of Wilmington. She is also survived by her half sister, Lynn L. Wilshire of Loganville, Georgia and her half brother, Billy Leachman of Commerce Georgia.
Pallbearers will be Tom Pearson, Bryan Pearson, John Pearson, Allan Lane, Butch Lewis and Roger Penrod.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be given to the Lower Cape Fear In-Patient Hospice Center of Wilmington NC or Brookwood Baptist Church of Jacksonville NC.
The family of Carolyn Pearson wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center, the Zimmer Cancer Center, the members of Brookwood Baptist Church of Jacksonville and Scotts Hill Baptist Church of Wilmington, wonderful friends, Butch and Grace Lewis, good neighbors, Janet and Steve Kittler and the many family and friends that provided love, support and prayers.
