JACKSONVILLE - Christopher Robert Sherman, Sr., of Jacksonville, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2016 at Onslow Memorial Hospital.
Graveside funeral services, with full military honors, will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 15, 2016 at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
Christopher was born in Waterbury, Vermont, on December 4, 1953. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert John Sherman. He served two years in the Vermont National Guard. He then served in the United States Marine Corps from 1981 until his retirement in 2001.
Chris enjoyed long walks on Onslow Beach, playing golf, feeding the birds at the many feeders in his backyard, traveling to historic sights and taking cruises with his wife, RuthAnn, and spending time with his beloved granddaughter, Madison.
He is survived by his mother, Lillian Sherman of Waterbury, VT; his devoted wife, RuthAnn Sherman of the home; his brother, Kevin Sherman and his wife, Cyndi of Williamsburg, VA; his sister, Misty Chase and her husband, James of Duxbury, VT; his son, Christopher R. Sherman, Jr. and his wife, Lindsey, of Fort Hood, TX; his daughter, Victoria Sherman of Lake Stevens, WA; a daughter, Theresa Brisentine and her husband, Christopher of Humboldt, TN; his granddaughter, Madison Brisentine; his nephew, Lane Sherman; his niece, Ashley Catchapa; and his faithful cat, Grayson.
The family will receive friends Monday morning, following the funeral, at a luncheon held at the Infant of Prague Catholic Church, Parrish Hall.
