Obituary

Elizabeth (Liza) Andrea Barrett, a courageous woman who was loved, will be missed and cherished, passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2021.    Liza was born May 25, 1965, in Elizabeth, NJ.  She was adopted by her mother and father, Andrea and William Barrett on what she referred to as her "gotcha day."  She was raised in Oakhurst, NJ, where she graduated from Ocean Township High School in 1983. She graduated in 1987 from Widener University, Wilmington, DE, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. A celebration of life service is scheduled 1:00PM, Wednesday at Sneads Ferry Presbyterian Church in Sneads Ferry with Rev. William Young officiating.

Liza loved working in customer service.  She spent most of her life in hotel management coordinating corporate businesses, corporate hotels, conferences, and reservations for stays.  Then for the last 20 years, staying in Onslow County to work at the Sneads Ferry Library from 2001-2021.

Liza was a Charter and Founding member of the Sneads Ferry Presbyterian Church, where she remained an Elder until her death.  Liza cherished being a Sunday school teacher and loved the children she taught.  She always referred to her Sunday school kids as her Angels.

Liza has had many accomplishments in her life, but one that she was most proud of, was her mission trip to Bay St. Louis after Hurricane Katrina.  She had a deep love of her family, pugs, pug rescues, and travel.  Her legacy lives on through two of Liza's Little Libraries and a Blessings Box.

She is survived by mother, Andrea Loomis Barrett, her brother Bill, and beloved pug Rosie. Aunts and uncles: John & Sue Mahler, Ed Crabtree. Cousins: Steve & Stephanie Mahler and their children; Laurel & Ben Wooley and their children; Susan Mahler and her children; and Debbie Mahler and her children.

Liza will always be remembered for her insightful and faithful words.  She told her Sunday School Angels that she would return as a bumble bee, and if they were stung, it would be her.  She always told her friends and family that "I'm good with it" and "I'm at Peace."
