RICHLANDS - Gertrude Mary Orme, 75, died at her home in Richlands, North Carolina, on Friday, February 13, 2015 after a 14 month bout with Mesothelioma cancer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at the Infant of Prague Catholic Church with Rev. Jeffrey Bowker officiating. Burial will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. Relatives and friends are welcome at the service.
Born August 26, 1939 in Newark New Jersey, she lived in Newark and Bloomfield, New Jersey before settling in Richlands, North Carolina. She spent most of her life as a home maker and devoted wife and mother. When relocating to Richlands, North Carolina she worked for Pro Construction until retiring in 2001. Gertrude was a member of the Infant of Prague Catholic church, where she served as a Catholic daughter to assist others in her parish and community.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her late siblings, Tony DeFrancis, Mary Rochelle, Frankie DeFrancis and Jackie DeFrancis; daughter-in-law, Roseanne Orme; and grandson, John Rudy Orme.
Survivors include her loving husband of 58 years, John F Orme Jr. of the home; her daughter, Linda Orme Mallamaci and son-in-law, Frank Mallamaci, Jr. of Cary, North Carolina; her son, John F. Orme, III of Bloomfield New Jersey; grandsons, Frank John Mallamaci and Nicholas Orme; sisters, Rose Bartell and Jeanette Bachelor; one brother, Dominic DeFrancis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials are welcome and should be mailed to the Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to local Hospice Chapter in Jacksonville.
The family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 2 - 4 PM and again from 6 - 8 PM at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel
