CEDAR POINT - Gurman Franklin Maready, 95, of Cedar Point, passed away Friday, January 12, 2024 at the Cottages of Swansboro with his family by his side. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at Freedom Way Freewill Baptist Church with Pastors Travis Moots, Sandy Bain, Steve Petty, and Ken Saleeby officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park in Morehead City.
Mr. Maready was born September 29, 1928 in Duplin County, NC to the late Riley Roe and Geneva Lanier Maready.
He worked in the construction and appraisal business for most of his life, he was one of the longest serving Veterans Administration inspector and appraiser. He faithfully served his country in the US Army. He loved his God, family, gospel music and Bogue Sound-in that particular order. A family trait shared by his brothers and sisters, and one most enjoyed by all, are the stories he could not finish because he was laughing too much to talk.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Nadeline Lanier and Sudie Arnette; brothers, Arnold, Coy, and Edgar Maready.
Survivors include the love of his life, Reba L. Maready of the home; daughter, Phyllis Howard of Cedar Point; sons, Keith Maready (Wendy) of Newport and Greg Maready (Jennifer) of Cape Carteret; grandchildren, Brian Maready (Allison), Kendall Maready, Riley Howard, Coley Howard, Devan Maready, and Kyle Keith (Emily); great grandchildren, Brody and Paisley Howard, Ava Maready, and Kennedy and Brooks Keith. He is also survived by sisters, Rebecca Smith and Jenny Collins both of Maysville; brother, John Maready of Jacksonville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 - 8 PM at Jones Funeral Home, Swansboro Chapel.
