Obituary

WILMINGTON  -  James Robinson Carroll, "Jim" passed away, peacefully, at home on February 2, 2022 ending a 10-year battle with cancer.

Jim was born in Dunn, NC on May 1, 1938 to James Robinson Carroll and Grace Penny Carroll. Eventually, the Carroll's would make their home in Jacksonville, NC.

Jim graduated Jacksonville High School in 1956 then, briefly, attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before entering the US Army as a Personnel Specialist, based in Hawaii. After completing his military service, Jim returned to UNC to continue his studies but was interrupted again when his father passed away. He returned to Jacksonville and began working for First National Bank of Jacksonville which would eventually merge with Bank of North Carolina.

In 1978, Jim moved his family to Wilmington where he was the sales manager of Carolina Inlet Marina for a decade. His experience in the marine industry led him to spend the final 25 years of his career as a manufacturer's representative for many successful boat lines.

Jim is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ann Tissue Carroll, his son James Robinson Carroll, V (Betsy) of Raleigh and his daughter, Tisha Carroll Edrington (David) of Pinehurst. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren: James Robinson Carroll VI, Ward Thomas Carroll, Frances Grace Edrington and Taylor Mintz Edrington along with his sister, Grace Penny Friar, of Cary.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, Feb. 7, 2022 at Onslow Memorial Park, in Jacksonville. Face masks are preferred but optional.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Virginia Episcopal School at 400 V.E.S. Blvd., Lynchburg, VA 24503, Lower Cape Fear Life Care at 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401 or St. John's Episcopal Church at 1219 Forest Hills Drive, Wilmington, NC 28403. Jim was a lifelong blood donor, so the family asks that you consider a blood donation in his memory. Many Years ago, he was made aware of a life that was saved by blood he donated and, additionally, his life was extended because of the blood donated by many selfless souls.
