Obituary

Jacksonville, NC – J.D. King Jr, born September 5, 1951 in Onslow County, died Friday, August 19, 2022 at Onslow Memorial Hospital.  He was preceded in death by his father, J.D. King Sr; brothers, Boyce Foy King and Aaron Bernard King; sister, Tonda King Smith and his son, Christopher Jay King.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Debby King of the home; daughter, Becky Kellum and husband, Ricky of Jacksonville; two grandsons he cherished and was so proud of, Rendel Jay Kellum and wife, Becca from New York City and Cameron Ray Kellum of Branson, MO; mother, Annie "Tiny" King of Jacksonville and sister, Omega King Jarman of Jacksonville. He was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.and all his cousins that he had a great time with every year.   He loved all his family deeply and did his best to keep them safe.  He especially loved taking care of his "four" girls.

J.D. was a member of the Jacksonville Police Department from 1974 until 1978, when he joined the N.C. State Highway Patrol.  He served faithfully there from 1978 until 2003 and then became an Onslow County Deputy until 2020.  He lived to "protect and serve". J.D. was a proud member of the Fab 4 Fundraising group that also included Steve Marshburn, Russell Jones and Renee Horne.  He was also a member of the Friday Morning Baker's Breakfast Club.  And in 2020, he joined the "ROMEO" club.

Services will be held on Monday evening at 7:00pm at Tar Landing Baptist Church, where he was a longtime member, with the Rev. Robert Williams and Rev. Jack Marshburn officiating.  The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 5:30pm at the church.
