Karen Ann Rooney, 63, died Saturday, August 28, 2010, at her home.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, September 5, 2010, at 10:00 am, at Hammocks Beach State Park. Reverend Joel Kettner will be officiating.
Karen was born in Brooklyn, NY and was the daughter of Thomas and Ethel Ferguson Rooney. She enjoyed the beach, Bear Island Beach especially, along with gardening and crafting as her pastimes. She worked for IBM, 30+ years, before her retirement.
She is survived by one son, Thomas Kemp Russell of Poughkeepsie, NY; a daughter, Christy Ann Russell of Gilbert, AZ; her parents, Thomas and Ethel Rooney of Staatsburg, NY; one sister, Katherine Rooney-Keto and her husband, Thomas of Clintondale, NY; three grandchildren and her fiancé, Bill Jenkins.
In lieu of flowers the family ask for Memorial Donations be made to the North Carolina Coastal Federation, 131 Racine Dr., Suite 101, Wilmington, NC 28403
