Olive Ann Shaw Downing, 90, of Jacksonville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 8, 2021, of natural causes. A native of Onslow County, she was the daughter of the late Franklin Deshon Shaw and Nina Farrior Shaw. She is survived by one brother, Franklin Donald Shaw, and is preceded in death by her sister, Christine Shaw Koonce.

Olive Ann was valedictorian of her high school in Richlands and was one of the first women of this region to graduate from college (WC, currently UNC-G).  She had a civil service career in personnel management at Camp Lejeune. She enjoyed traveling after retirement and was an avid bridge player. She had served as an Elder, member of the Board of Deacons, and Ladies Sunday School teacher at the First Presbyterian Church. She generously donated to many charities in her later years.

She saw each of her children in the days preceding her death, including Merian Frazelle O'Neil (Jim O'Neil), Kenneth Frazelle (Rick Mashburn), Kevin Frazelle, and many close Shaw relatives. She had two grandchildren, Colin O'Neil and Patrick O'Neil. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth Frazelle, her second husband, John Pershing Downing, and her two step-children, Mike Downing and Mark Downing. She has six step-grandchildren.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Yvonne Petteway for her loving care and devotion to their mother during the past year.

A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville at a later date. In honor of their mother, the family wishes that a donation be made to your favorite charity.
