Obituary

JACKSONVILLE  -  Patsy Kellum Svendsen, 84, turned to the hills of no return on September 19, 2021.  She was a lover of children, art, music, nature and God.

She was the 4th child of Essie Johnston & Jennings Daniel Kellum, whom she now joins along with her husband, Paul Svendsen, her brothers Larry Kellum and Douglas Kellum, and her sisters Robin Teachey and Linda Witten. She is survived by her younger sister, (Hoagie) Jackie Kellum Williams.

Patsy attended Jacksonville High School (Class of 1954) and received the first art award given by the school.  She would go on to study at Ringling Institute of Art in Sarasota Florida.  Here, she would meet and later marry Paul Svendsen.  They were married 50 years together.

Patsy earned her college degree at Coastal Carolina Community College in Education.  As a profession, she was an educator.

She is survived by her 5 children, Kurt Svendsen of home, Eric Svendsen of Yorktown VA, Doctor Thor Svendsen of Charlotte NC, Lori Svendsen Brown of Richlands NC, Hugh Svendsen of Chapel Hill NC and also their combined 11 grandchildren: Calista Hall, John Kellum Svendsen, Paul Owen Svendsen, Kellum Svendsen, Hugh Jennings Svendsen, Jordan Brown, Palmer Brown, Ashley Brown, Claire Svendsen Baugher, Blake Svendsen, and Brett Svendsen.

Patsy wore many hats during her lifetime, but her children always came first, followed closely by her love of painting, music, and knitting.

She spent her last days doing these things and if you stopped to speak to her, she would not hesitate to tell you "her cup runneth over."

Visitation and service times have had to be delayed and will now be held Monday evening, October 11 from 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM at Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville.  A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, October 12 at Kellum Family Cemetery at 1731 Kellum Loop Road.

From the perspective of the children and grandchildren, Mother and Grandmother Patsy walked on water as a mother, grandmother, and friend.  She will be surely missed by all of us, family and friends.
