SNEADS FERRY  -  Phyllis Joan Divel, 82, of Sneads Ferry,  passed away Friday, April 5, 2024 surrounded by loved ones at home under Hospice care after a long battle with Dementia/ALZ.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Jones Funeral Home, Holly Ridge Chapel.

Mrs. Divel was born on February 13, 1942 in Monterey, VA to the late Catherine Cartwright Reed and Jesse James Reed.

She preceded in death by her sisters, Catherine Gatton, Corlin Bunny Wegner, Patricia Netz, Darlene Crow and Lorretta Janie Rager; as well as her brothers, Dale Reed, Michael Reed and Jesse Eddie Reed, all of Delaware and her favorite companion of ten years, Fred Thompson.

Phyllis was a loving and devoted mother of 3 daughters and twin sons, Christine McGinley of Sneads Ferry, Roxann Glass of Hancock, MD, Ronald Divel, Sr. of Warfordsburg PA, Robert Divel, Jr. of Hancock, MD and Jacklyn McCusker of Needmore, PA.   She is also survived by her grandchildren, Amy Stotler of Berkeley Springs, WV, Amanda Ashley of Jacksonville, Arthur Ashley Jr of Fort Mills, SC, Ronald Divel, Jr. of Frederick, MD, Bradley Divel of Berkeley Springs, WV, Josh Sipes of Warfordsburg, PA, John Glass, Jr. of Berkeley Springs, WV, Bille Jean Sipes of Warfordsburg, PA and Mitchell Divel of Warfordsburg, PA; and numerous great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

Phyllis never meant a stranger & had a passion for helping others as a volunteer from Care Giver, Food Banks, Senior Centers & more. Phyllis did not follow the crowd but followed our savior. She was our validation that Peace is not the absence of problems but the presence of Christ in the midst of trouble.

A viewing  and receiving of friends will be held Friday evening, April 12, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
