JACKSONVILLE - Theresa VanderVere, 91, passed away on July 19, 2024, at Navion Senior Living in Greenville, NC. She was surrounded by her family.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Infant of Prague Catholic Church in Jacksonville. Burial will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
Mrs. VanderVere was born on May 24, 1933, in North Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of John and Mary Jachim, who both preceded her in death. She graduated from Holy Rosary School and Holy Child High School in Waukegan, Illinois. On May 14, 1955, at Holy Rosary Church, she married Everett VanderVere, the love of her life. He preceded her in death in May of 2007 after 52 years of marriage. During Everett's 20 years in the Marine Corps the family lived in North Carolina, California, Hawaii, and Illinois and settled in North Carolina when he retired in 1970. The most important thing in Theresa's life was her family. She is survived by her four children, Carissa VanderVere and husband, Steve Potter of Winterville, NC, Cynthia Leary and husband, Rick of Palatka, Florida, Curt VanderVere and wife, Vickie of Williamsport, Pennsylvania and Holly Ridge, NC, and Carl VanderVere of Trenton, NC. Grandchildren, Christian Hillebrand and partner, Niki Graham, Matthew Hillebrand and wife, Deneen, Dylan Ray and wife, Lindsay, Theresa Ray, Jenifer Mosely, and Quinn Broome, and two great grandsons, Julian Gavin Hillebrand and Bowie Hillebrand and three great granddaughters, Ramona Belle Ray and Marietta Ray and Chloe Schaeffer. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Dolores Sherony of O'Fallon, Missouri.
Theresa retired from Wachovia Bank as an Assistant Vice President.
Aside from her family, Theresa's other love was to travel. She took many trips to Europe and Asia with Everett and then continued to travel and cruise with her sister, children, and friends after his death. Another love was musical theatre which she attended as often as possible.
Theresa was a long-time member of Infant of Prague Church. She had been a member of the Jacksonville Planning Advisory Board for many years.
In 2022, Theresa moved to Brookdale Assisted Living (now Navion) in Greenville, North Carolina. There she was visited by Tom from St. Gabriel's Church to continue to receive communion.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Monday, July 22, 2024, at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff and residents of Navion Senior Living for their friendship, love, and support to their entire family over the past two years.
Memorials can be made to the Infant of Prague Church or Franciscan Father at Eternal Word Television Network.
