Wayne Clark
Anderson
January 18, 1936 – July 23, 2024
EMERALD ISLE - Dr. Wayne Clark Anderson of Emerald Isle passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at his home. He was 88.
Wayne is survived by his wife Mary Helen Anderson. He leaves behind his two children, Lindsay Anderson Sablosky of San Francisco and Brent Clark Anderson and wife Melissa of Cedar Point; his grandchildren Spencer Clark Anderson, Avery Elizabeth Anderson, Joseph Anderson Sablosky, Annabelle (Annie) Lee Sablosky, and August (Gus) Clark Sablosky; his brother Gene Anderson and wife Gaye of Wilmington, and sister-in-law Grace Anderson of Southern Pines.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Fletcher Anderson Sr. and Lucille Clark Anderson of New Bern and his brothers Kenneth Fletcher Anderson of Wilmington and James (Jim) Martin Anderson of Southern Pines.
Wayne was born the second of four brothers on January 18, 1936, in Wilmington, NC. The family moved from Wilmington to Jacksonville before settling in Kinston, NC. There Wayne attended Grainger High School, where he played football and sang in the school glee club.
He enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1956, where he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. After graduating in June 1960 with a Bachelor's degree in English, Wayne enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Alabama. Following his time in the Army, he returned to Chapel Hill and was accepted at the Adams School of Dentistry at UNC. He graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in June of 1964.
Wayne started the dental practice Anderson & Slack, PA in Jacksonville in 1970 with his longtime partner Jim Slack, and later opened Anderson & Slack and Associates in Swansboro. He practiced and managed both offices until his retirement in 2016 at the age of 80.
Wayne's greatest loves were being on the ocean, fishing, and working on the many boats he had over the years–and there were many! He and his crew often fished in the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament, and Wayne was never far from the ICW or the ocean front he loved so dearly. He was a passionate Carolina Tar Heels fan and followed UNC basketball, football, and baseball (in good years and bad), and he was very proud to have had his two children, a daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren graduate from his alma mater.
The family would like to thank the team at Gentiva Hospice, especially Connie Kelly, for whom we are so grateful for having come into our lives; and caregiver and friend Joy Smith.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday August 3, 2024 at Swansboro United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Hope Mission of Carteret County.
